I’ve been a Walt Disney World annual passholder for about ten years, and have been going to the four theme parks regularly for my entire life. However, prior to a few weeks ago, I had never been to a Disney Water Park! My Disney friends had been telling me for so long that I was missing out. And they were definitely right! Yesterday, we had the opportunity to attend Media Day at Disney’s Blizzard Beach, and interviewed the general manager and one of the chefs behind the delicious food and drink options at Disney’s water parks.
We had such an amazing experience, and learned so many wonderful things about Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Here are the top 3 things you need to know about Disney’s Water Parks:
1. There’s something for everyone.
Whether you are a thrill seeker, or are in the the toddler or baby phase of life, or if you just love lounging at the beach, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon have you covered. I have five children, and there are tons of fun options for each of them! At Blizzard Beach, Summit Plummet is one of the highest points in Walt Disney World, offering panoramic views of Central Florida while waiting in line. I haven’t been brave enough to try it yet, but my teenage son and preteen daughter absolutely love it! At Tike’s Peak, even your smallest swimmers can enjoy slides and play areas made just for them! And for adults, sitting by the wave pool, listening to the waves crashing against the shore, while enjoying a delicious beverage, is the perfect way to relax.
One of our favorite rides at Blizzard Beach is Teamboat Springs. This family raft ride can seat 6 people, and is such a fun group experience! Be sure to check out my Instagram page for a full ride video from this slide! As a parent, one of the nice things about Disney’s Water Parks also is that very few rides have height requirements. My newly 5 year old daughter enjoyed every single slide that I did, and it was so refreshing to not have to sit back for hours with a little one. This park is designed for families!
Even without children, I would recommend Disney’s Water Parks for adults. Between the low wait times, the adult beverage options, and the immersive experience, you can have a few hours where you feel like you have been transported to the tropics! Mark Dukes, the General Manager of Disney’s Water Parks, highlighted this as one of the unique aspects of Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon; you are completely immersed in the world they have created. From almost anywhere in the parks, you can’t see the outside world. The foliage, the details, the scale; everything makes you feel like you are far away from Central Florida. Talk about an easy escape from daily life!
2. Gourmet food and drink options abound!
During our experience as guests of Walt Disney World for the media day, we were also treated to meals. With 4 people in our party for Media Day, we were able to try out several different options.
One of the things that was most impressive to me was how many vegan and vegetarian options there were at the water parks! And unlike at other theme parks or even many restaurants, these options were not kept hidden, nor did they require any special conversation with the chef (although you are welcome to do that as well!). The vegetarian and vegan options were clearly listed on the regular menu at the largest restaurant at Disney’s Blizzard Beach, Lottawatta Lodge. I enjoyed the vegetarian wrap, which included tofu, lettuce, diced tomatoes, black beans, and more. It was delicious! And when we talked to Chef James, he told us that there were actually 7 vegan or vegetarian options at Disney’s Water Parks. These are not your regular amusement park food options! And if you have any special dietary needs, a chef is always available to specially prepare your food and talk with you about your options.
Some of the other dishes that are unique to Disney’s Water Parks are Rice Bowls with several different options, a Shrimp Salad, Watermelon Salad, and amazing and delicious platters that are available when you rent a cabana. The Sand Pail Sundae, which is available at IC Expeditions at Disney’s Blizzard Beach, and is also available at Typhoon Lagoon, is a huge, shareable treat that is perfect for a hot day! It’s large enough to share and perfect for those Instagram photo ops.
When the park was about to close, I realized I had been having so much fun, I forgot to feed our guest and my children dinner! I ran around the park right before closing and got a chocolate funnel cake, a huge doughnut from Joffrey’s, and a dozen delicious donut holes! Sweets for dinner; what a perfect ending to a perfect day.
3. Enjoy Disney magic at a water park.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t usually think of water parks as the cleanest place to visit. That was actually part of my hesitation in visiting for so many years. I’ve been to other water parks in my life of course, and was always a little squeamish about the water, the trash areas, the restrooms, and just the general cleanliness of the park. But I should have known better about the Disney experience at a water park! At Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, the water is crystal clear, there’s no overpowering chemical smell, the common areas are kept spotless, and the customer service is exactly what you would expect from Walt Disney World.
Anyone is who is familiar with Disney, knows that they are recognized for their amazing customer service. It makes such a big difference when cast members greet you with a smile, are happy to answer your questions, and make you feel welcome. As I’ve said many times before, cast members make the magic. It truly is one of the main things that sets Disney apart. And at Disney’s Water Parks, this is just as true. I had so many pleasant conversations with cast members, and they create such a friendly, safe environment.
When talking with Mark Dukes, the Disney Water Parks General Manager, he said that water quality is checked at least twelve times a day, at different spots around the park. The water is constantly filtered and recycled throughout the day, as well as cleaned by hand constantly by cast members. You feel safe, cared for, and welcomed at Disney’s Water Parks.
Whether you have never visited Walt Disney World, or you are a Disney expert, make time to visit Disney’s Water Parks. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon has an amazing wave pool that features 6 foot waves and Disney’s Blizzard Beach features the only ski lift at a water park in the United States! There are really fun slides, thrill rides, toddler areas, and delicious food and drink options at every park. Be sure to visit me on Instagramfor IGTV videos, stories, and more posts about our day!
